A little break from everyday life

“Actually, we don’t have time to get away because we’re so busy. But you have to take a little break every now and then to do something nice together.”

With these words, Björn Köhler kicked off this year’s factory outing last Friday. We smiled – and actually put our work aside for a day. The factory and workshop gallery remained closed, and we spent the day together.

After a hearty breakfast, we took the bus to Zwönitz in the Ore Mountains. During a tour of the historic paper mill, we learned a lot about traditional paper and cardboard making. Afterward, we got to try our hand at it and make paper from rags. It was a pretty messy experience – and yet another reminder that craftsmanship isn’t for people who are afraid of getting their hands dirty.

After all that hard work, a delicious lunch awaited us at the Zwönitz Brewery Inn. Afterward, we joined the town crier for a walking tour of Zwönitz. Although the weather was a bit changeable at first, it ultimately rewarded us with bright sunshine.

What will we take away from this day? Above all, the wonderful feeling of having consciously set aside time for one another – for conversations, new impressions, and shared experiences.

A beautiful and varied day, and at the same time a gentle reminder that it’s important to treat yourself to some time off every now and then. Work awaits – but shared memories don’t just happen on their own.
