In earlier times, the living room was locked before the feast and could only be entered when the Christmas bell rang. Then it was time for the children to receive presents. Our little Santa Claus rings at Christmas Eve with his silky-matt shimmering bell. He also has a rod with him. I wonder if he'll need it.
The rod is elaborately handcrafted from five wooden wire elements of different lengths, which are glued together individually and attached as a package in the figure's hand.
